For this project I studied the influence to children that
using computers in a young age.
This is an important issue because as the technology developed,
young kids can get in touch with computers easily. How will this impact
children’s childhood? Will this cause good effects or bad ones?
This project presents my findings and hopefully acts as a
guide for you to learn more about this topic. First, here is a video I
made that briefly summarizes the issue and my thoughts on the topic. I have
also provided some vocabularywords I came across that I think
are important to understanding this topic. Here I provide summaries on two readings I’ve done on this topic, with links
to the original articles. Finally, this ismy formal argument where I detail my stance on the issues.

Somebody may ask me, what did you do in your spare time when you
were a kid? My answer would be, playing soccer/football, hanging out with my
friends in the neighborhood or watching TV. I have a brother who is 7 years
younger than I am. When he was asked what he did in his free time, he told them
playing computer games with my brother. I got my first computer when I was in
primary school, and it was just the time my brother born. As a result, when he
was using computers, I had already been playing them for several years and many
different types of games. But at that time, computers were really common and
popular.
Nowadays, children can easily get in touch with computers. There come some worries that many parents are worried about their children using computers. Someone think it will cause problems like eye problems or cervical spondylopathy. Also, someone might complain that children using computer will cause incident of violence because children cannot defined the truth and the fiction. Others complain using computers will waste a lot of time which they can use the time reasonably on studying and sports exercises. On the other hand, some people argue that computer skills are important in children's lives. Using computers early can help them develop their computer skills early and it is useful. Also, someone argues that computer can help the children a lot on studying, even more than a teacher, because it can store comprehensive knowledge. We will explore these in this
essay.
The most common argument is that children shouldn't use computers is because of the physical problems to their body. This is actually true. More and more kids are having eye problems. One of the biggest reasons is they use computer for such a long period of time without any rest. They are too young to take control of themselves and take care of their body health. I myself am kind of a best example. I used to play computer games for a very long time without any rest, especially in weekend and vacations. The games are so attractive. Also, when you are using computer, you may not realize how you are sitting. The way you are sitting may cause several problems to your health. The parents' worry is correct. They should prevent their children from using computers too long in order to protect their kid's eye and the whole body as well.
Another problem with children using computers is that they cannot identify the events they seen are real or not. Since we can connect to the Internet on the computer, children will learn lots of things from the Internet. Some are good to their study or their life, others may cause bad effects. Children will know something useless, even harmful, to their life. As we all know, there are lots of teenage violence events nowadays. We cannot say all of these, but half is because of what the children see on the Internet as well as the television. There are huge amounts of movies or videos talking about violence, such as underworld or problem students in high schools. Children will not think they are illegal or make a bad impact to the society because those movies make those problem guys as main
characters. They will get a deep impression that fighting is cool. They will try to imitate what they see in the film. This really cause a lot of teenage violence event. In China, the teenagers who are in crime will not be punished if they are not at the age of 18. Though they will not be punished, they will be taken to a place to be educated for several months. No matter what they will do in the future, this will make negative effects to their lives. To avoid such a result, parents should do something before it happens.
Furthermore, playing video games wastes a lot of time for teenagers. Kids can use their time reasonably instead of using computer all day. The two helpful things we can do in our childhood are studying and sports. We all know it is during our teenage year that is the best time for studying. We all know children can remember more things than adults. They can learn one language easily. They have better memory. Another reason is adults need to pay their attention to different things. That is why children should go to school and they do should learn more things.
Also, children should do more exercises in their childhood. Many children are weak when they go to high school, college or even go to the society. As we all know, there are lots of children who are obesity. People are having a better life than before. We have cars to drive to everywhere we want instead of our feet. We can buy everything and book everything we want on the Internet. Many children are lack of exercises. Using computers for too much time is one of the main reasons that children do not study hard and do fewer exercises. They spend too much time sitting in front of the computers. Parents should control their children's computer using time.
Nevertheless, many people also argue that children using computer can bring benefits to kids. Since the computer skills are very important in our works nowadays, everyone may have to know the basics of computer using. If kids can practice the computer skills when they are young, they may have an advantage in their rest life including applying for school and jobs. Also, computer is an amazing machine which can store comprehensive knowledge. We all know human beings cannot be wonderful and perfect. We all have weaknesses and faults. We cannot remember everything in our brain. However, computer can solve this problem. Unless they are broken, they can store everything in their electronic brain. Children can learn huge amount of knowledge from computers.
In my opinion, children can learn a lot from using the computer. Computers using do not just have negative effects. The most important is the parents should control the time their children spend on the computers and let their children learn something from using computer instead of playing games all day. In a good way using computer can bring benefits to kids. However, most children and their parents do not realize this and in that case, computer using can only bring negative effects to them.
In the article “Impact of Computer Use on Children's Vision”
written on the American Optometric Association, the author said millions of
children are using computers both in school and at home for education and entertainment. Children can be influenced by using computers, such as eye discomfort, fatigue, blurred
vision and headaches. Actually, children will get a deeper influence than the
adults. Children often cannot control themselves which they will use computers for many hours even without a break. This can do harm to children's eyes and the eyes may be weak in focusing on a specific target. The author said children can adapt something new very quickly which is a both a good thing and a bad thing. When they are using the computer with a big screen they will not change it to a comfortable view. The author complained this will also cause negative effects to children's eyes.
In
the article "The impact of Computer Use on Children’s Neurological Development" which is composed in Katherine's Blog,
the author explains how the humans’ brain develops and why using
computers can affect kids’ brain development. The author first explained there
are three stages in a human being’s brain development of attention. Spending
too much time on computers will weaken your attention skill. Some people argued
that using computer can build kids’ multitasking skills. However,the author disagree with them because the author think people will have to focus on something they are not interested in for a long period of time in their future study and job. If the kids are weak in this skill, how can they adapt to the society. Furthermore, the author argued that computer games will cause uncontrollable emotions in ones’ brain which will result in lazy and underdeveloped. This is even more serious than the attention development because it causes physical problems to your body as well. The article ends by a writing that Jane Healy said “The way children use computers may have powerful long-term effects on their minds.”

serving your guests and cleaning your restaurant. Suddenly some guys come into
your restaurant, have a big meal and just leave away without paying anything.
